Bishop George V. Murry, S.J., has been diagnosed with a form of acute leukemia and was admitted to the Cleveland Clinic April 29 for intensive chemotherapy for the next month.

Physicians at the Cleveland Clinic have stated that there are to be no visitors but prayers are requested for the bishop’s recovery. The diocese will provide periodic updates on Bishop Murry’s health.

Msgr. Robert Siffrin, diocesan vicar general, is in touch with Bishop Murry and is keeping the bishop up-to-date on what is happening in the diocese.

Anyone wanting to send Bishop Murry a card can mail them to the Diocesan Chancery, 144 W. Wood St., Youngstown, Ohio 44503.

The diocesan website recently added a prayer request function, where anyone can offer prayer requests for healing for Bishop Murry or others. Go to www.doy.org and scroll down to “Prayer Requests,” or send an email to prayerrequests@youngstowndiocese.org.

People have been posting prayers for Bishop Murry to the diocesan Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pg/DOYoungstown/posts/ since his diagnosis was announced - with over 200 prayers posted early in the week.
